No points on taxes or third-party bookings

2. Hilton Credit Cards (Amex)

Hilton partners with American Express to offer co-branded credit cards that allow you to earn points on every purchase and often come with automatic elite status.

Popular cards include:

Hilton Honors Card (no annual fee): Silver status

Hilton Surpass® Card ($150): Gold status

Hilton Aspire® Card ($550): Diamond status + premium perks

Hilton Business Card ($195): Gold status

Earn rates (varies by card):

7x–14x at Hilton hotels

3x–6x on dining, gas, groceries, flights

• Bonus: Some cards offer Free Night Rewards or resort credits

3. Other Partners

Hilton Honors Dining: Link a card and earn points at participating restaurants.

Car rental partners: Earn extra points via Alamo, National, Enterprise.

Transfer points from Amex Membership Rewards (poor ratio, though).

Buy points (periodic bonuses make this viable for topping off).

Redeeming Hilton Honors Points

1. Free Night Awards (Best Value)

• Hilton uses dynamic pricing (no fixed award chart), ranging from:

5,000 points for low-end properties

Up to 120,000+ points for luxury properties (e.g., Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, LXR)

Average value: ~0.5–0.6 cents/point

5th Night Free: Book 5 consecutive award nights and pay for only 4 (elite members only — including Silver).

2. Points & Money

• Use a mix of cash and points for bookings.

• Great for flexibility when you don’t have enough points.

3. Free Night Certificates

• Offered via Surpass, Aspire, or Business cards.

• Valid at almost any Hilton worldwide (excluding some premium properties during peak).

4. Other Redemptions

• Amazon purchases, Lyft rides, merchandise, car rentals, experiences

• Not ideal — lower redemption value vs. free nights

Hilton Honors Elite Status

Unlike other hotel programs, Hilton makes it easy to earn elite status, especially with credit cards.

Credit cards make this easy:

Surpass/Business = Gold

Aspire = Diamond

Milestone Bonuses: Earn 10,000 bonus points every 10 nights after 40 nights. At 60 nights, you also get a Free Night Reward.
